Gladfield’s unique roasting process keeps the barley husk moist during roasting, limiting the production of bitter and astringent flavours that are usually associated with heavily roasted malts.

Dark Chocolate malt makes an excellent contribution to Porters, Stouts, Black IPAs and Dark Ales. It provides smooth dark roast flavours with deep chocolate & medium roast coffee notes and rich, dark colours. Chocolate malts can be applied more generously than Roasted Barley due to the smoother flavouring and lower astringency.

This is a specialty malt and can be crushed, steeped in water and added to an extract brew, or included with base malts in a mash to provide a deep chocolate-coffee flavour and aroma.
